★ “Painkiller” of Judas Priest left a strong impact on me.
When I listened to this song for the first time, it was also my first encounter with METAL music. Wow! Until then, I had listened to pop music as many of my friends did. Though I totally forgot the reason why I happened to listen to this song at the time, I still remember it was a really shocking experience for me.
★Great ! Rob Halford
“Painkiller”. I guess this song is kind of a landmark to conquer for “metal male high-pitch vocals”. Very few people can sing this high tone melody as strong as Rob Halford. Actually he has a super high-pitch voice, as do Graham Bonnet and Andre Matos.
★I understood what METAL music is...and it’s definitely cool!
So, Painkiller. My first impression was...He’s screaming something! And...Is it OK for such melodies to exist?! The melodies were so difficult that not many people could sing them easily. I felt the guitar sounds were too heavy and the rhythms were too fast for my ears.
I also thought, “I’ve never listened to this kind of song. Now I understood what METAL music is...and it’s definitely cool! I love it!”
I think this was the turning point. It was where my music life changed directions. It was really huge for me. It’s a historic event in my life I suppose.
★European metal style with the high pitch voice
Not only that, but I think his high pitch voice matches with the guitar and the bass as one part of this song. Even though he screams so much, all the parts including the vocal part are beautifully unified as one. I guess it depends on recording method to some extent, but it’s actually European metal music which has beauty in this style, and I can’t help feeling it.
★Another cool song “Leather rebel”
After the strong impact of “Painkiller,” I listened to the song “Leather rebel”. I like this song so much. I enjoy the feeling of moving fast, the rhythmical guitar riffs and the deep sound, especially in the chorus part. This song left a huge impression on me of just how cool metal music is.
